How to Read Your Closet

We’ve all had those moments where we try on half of our closet and nothing seems right. For me, it goes a little something like, “If only I had a pink top to match this pink stripe on my pants...,” or “Maybe if I had this outfit in black to match my black shoes, I could’ve worn it!” All this to say, if I knew more of what I didn’t have in my closet rather than what I do have in there, I can be on the lookout for those items on my next shopping trip! That will, in turn, help me when picking out my outfit in the morning.
The HGTV shows I grew up watching with my mom have led me to solve a few of my everyday outfit picking problems. There is still work to be done, and, of course, the problem will always be there because we all crave a certain look, but we can try our best! This simple tip will help you and your wardrobe look much chicer!
Keep it organized!!!!
“That’s it?!” Yes, but it’s more than just that! Even though this is common knowledge, some people need a reminder! I know I did! My shirt closet went from what I thought was organized to almost having a store quality layout. I should've taken before pictures, but here is what my shirt closet looks like now!
All I did was organize by color, sleeve length, and sometimes texture (I’ve been wearing a lot of sweaters and I usually group them together). It seems like a lot of work, but there are only so many colors you can have. Grouping gets easier as you go. When I first moved into college and set up my closet, it was only organized my sleeve-length because I’m always layering. But, that caused me to search through everything to see what options I had, which took forever. Now, my closet is organized by color and by sleeve-length, and it now gives the same satisfaction you get when you walk into a store.
Some pros of organizing your closet by color:
- You can see how much of each color you have that way you know what color to look for during your next shopping trip.
- Color coordinate instantly!
- Increase your ability of what you can see in your closet.
- You can leave your closet open and have your clothes on display as an eye-catching and satisfying piece.
- SAVE COIN SIS! This will allow you to see that you have too much black and you don't need to buy anymore.
- Organizing helps you feel less stressed.
- It allows you to add pops of color to outfits as you've never done before.
- It also allows you to see what specific items are needed. If you notice you have a sweater in every color, but navy (one of the must-have colors), now you know to start looking for deals on navy sweaters.
I hope these pros open your eyes and make you want to try it out for yourself. I also organize my pants by blue, black, and colored, and my dresses are organized in order of sleeve length. I do need a better way of organizing my jackets. If you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments!
Whatever organization tactic you feel is right for you will help ultimately help you in the outfit picking process, but organization is the key.
